Working With Your Board (When You Are Not in Charge of It)
What a board is for, what to ask of it in year one, and how to brief a chair or committee without overstepping. For the fundraiser who reports to the ED and still needs the board to help.
Through the International NGOs lens
Board members here are often removed from the field by geography, so they may never have seen a program in person, which changes the "why did you join" conversation this module recommends: the answer is more likely values or professional expertise than firsthand experience. Building trust with a board like this tends to run through policy and organizational credibility more than through program stories, at least until a board trip becomes possible.
