The fine print

Privacy Policy

This page explains what The Fundraising Co. LLC, the company behind The Fundraising Co., collects about you, why, the lawful basis for it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run a membership site and its free tools, and your data is not the product.

Current status: the site is in public preview and paid membership checkout is not open. This policy covers the free site, tools, forms, and account previews. It will be updated before any live Willingly pilot processes real donor information.

What we collect and why

Members and account-holders:

  • Your email, to sign you in (we send magic links, not passwords) and to reach you about your account. Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you.
  • Your name and track preference, if you give them, so we can point you at the right material.
  • Your subscription status via Stripe: which tier, whether it is active, when it renews. Never your full card number; that goes directly to Stripe.
  • Usage data: which pages and lessons you open, so we know what to improve. This is first-party and functional; we do not use third-party advertising trackers.

Visitors using our free tools and forms (no account required):

  • The Snapshot and Reactivation tools: the calculators run in your browser and send nothing on their own. If you ask us to email your readout, we store the email address you enter plus a short summary of the figures you typed (your self-reported retention numbers), so we can send the report and follow up. Lawful basis: your request (steps to enter into a contract) and our legitimate interest in following up.
  • The founding-list waitlist and the newsletter: the email (and optional name, track, and tier interest) you submit. Lawful basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

What we do not do

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent our lists to third parties for their own marketing. We share data only with the service providers below, and only so they can do their job for us. Every marketing email carries a working unsubscribe link that takes effect promptly.

Who processes your data

We use a small set of service providers (processors), each under a data-processing agreement, each only for the job named:

  • Stripe processes payments and holds card details.
  • Our email provider delivers magic links, receipts, the newsletter, and report emails.
  • Our database and hosting providers store account records and run the site.
  • Our lead store and, where enabled, a delivery webhook receive tool, waitlist, and newsletter signups so we can respond.

We keep a current list of sub-processors and will update it before a new one starts handling your data.

Where your data is processed

We operate from the United States, and our providers process data there. If you are in the EU, the UK, or another region with cross-border transfer rules, that data moves to the US under an approved transfer mechanism, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK addendum) or a provider's Data Privacy Framework certification.

Cookies

We set one session cookie to keep you signed in. It is functional only, with no third-party advertising trackers. If that ever changes, this policy changes first and we will ask for consent where the law requires it.

Your choices and rights

Wherever you live, you can email Patrick@thefundraisingco.com to access a copy of what we hold, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to a use, receive it in a portable form, or withdraw a consent you gave (for the newsletter or waitlist). We respond within 30 days. Deletion removes your account, your lead-store records, your progress, and your preferences; we keep only what tax and accounting law requires us to retain. We will confirm before we delete.

If you are in the EU or UK and think we have mishandled your data, you also have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority.

Data retention

We keep account data while your membership is active. If you cancel, the account stays so you can rejoin without starting over; email us to have it deleted sooner. Lead-store records (tool, waitlist, and newsletter signups) are kept while they are useful for follow-up and are removed on request or when no longer needed. Payment records are kept only as long as tax and accounting law requires, even after an account is deleted.

A note on the retention benchmark

A future member feature would read an organization's recurring-gift records to compute its retention. That feature is not active. When it launches, we will act as the organization's processor under a separate agreement, publish only aggregated, non-identifying figures, and update this policy first.

Children

The service is built for working fundraisers and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email Patrick@thefundraisingco.com and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

Updates are posted on this page. If a change meaningfully affects how your data is handled, we will email you before it takes effect.
