First-time donor retention is an acute problem for international NGOs, since a donor who gives once in response to a crisis appeal, a disaster, a refugee response, often has no ongoing relationship with the organization at all, exactly the pattern this module's retention math predicts will produce a low second-gift rate without a deliberate welcome sequence. The proof touch matters more here than almost anywhere else, since a donor who has never visited a program has no other way to verify their gift became something real except the story and photo this module recommends sending without any ask attached. The 48-hour system's speed standard is harder to hit during a crisis response, when gift volume spikes exactly when staff capacity is thinnest, which makes templates built in advance especially practical.

  • Build a four-tier thank-you system with pre-written templates, a named owner and a named backup, and a two-business-day standard that holds in December.
