Signature Events and Civic Presence
When the institution's events are about civic standing rather than net revenue, how to say so to a board, and the executive's own role in the room. The signature event as an act of institutional presence, judged by what it is for.

A land trust's anniversary event, or a gathering tied to a major land acquisition, fits this module because the actual purpose is often to mark the institution's permanence rather than to fund the acquisition itself, which was financed separately. The charter's limit on a paddle raise, no more than a single moment, if the board approves one, is a useful boundary given how easily a civic event here could be pulled toward advocacy messaging that belongs in a different venue and, given the c3/c4 boundary, possibly a different entity.

- Distinguish a signature event whose purpose is civic presence from a revenue event, and state the purpose to a board without disguising one as the other.
- Budget and evaluate a civic event on its own terms, including the institutional outcomes it is for, and defend it against both the demand for net and the temptation to inflate it.
- Define the executive's role in the room: the host, the voice, the relationships that only the CEO or CDO can hold, and the gratitude that is theirs to give.
- Audit the institution's civic presence across the year and decide what the signature event should be, if anything.
