How Fundraising Works
The map you weren't given: where the money comes from, why people give, and what a development program is made of.
Through the Environment lens
Individual giving still leads your map, but it shows up as two different behaviors: a sustainer who gives quietly every month because the cause is core to their identity, and a crisis donor whose gift spikes around a specific loss or campaign moment and goes just as quiet again. Foundations function here as real project capital for a policy fight or land acquisition, which is exactly why letting the individual base wither in favor of grant chasing puts an organization on the funding cliff right when a campaign needs the staying power a grant was never meant to provide.
