An opening-night gala or an anniversary season is often exactly this kind of event, where the museum or symphony's standing as a civic institution is the actual point and any revenue is a byproduct, so stating that plainly protects the institution from being disappointed by a net it was never built to produce. The CDO's role as the room's memory fits an arts institution's pattern of gathering trustees, artistic leadership, and civic figures who may not otherwise be tracked as a single relationship list.
