The Case for Support That Writes Itself
One master case document that powers every appeal, proposal, and conversation, built from your mission's real evidence.
Through the Healthcare lens
The case architecture's insistence that the problem exist independently of the organization applies with particular force in healthcare, since "our hospital faces a funding shortfall" is close to the deficit framing this module singles out as the weakest opening; a stronger case names the wait time or the gap in a service line before ever mentioning the institution. The proof beam's results layer carries unusual weight here, since a healthcare case can cite outcomes data, survival rates, readmission reductions, in a way few other sectors can, and this module's warning against unverifiable claims means every clinical outcome cited has to survive a skeptical physician's read-aloud. The witnesses layer works powerfully when it includes both a patient's voice and a referring physician's, since third-party clinical credibility outranks the foundation's own claims.

Learning objectives
- State the three beams every case rests on, problem, promise, and proof, and the standard each must meet: a problem that exists without the organization, a promise a donor can see as a transaction, and proof that survives a skeptical read-aloud.
- Write a master case of six to ten internal pages in a two-hour working session, including a sourced local number, a meaning ladder from small gift to lead gift, an honest limits paragraph, and the one-page, two-minute, and one-sentence distillations.
- Apply the four cutting patterns to turn one master case into an appeal letter, a funder proposal, a board deck, and a spoken answer without an improvised claim, and keep them current on a six-month refresh.
- Decide, using the seven tests, whether a case statement opens with an independent problem, dates and prices its promise, shows what specific amounts buy, and admits a limit, and rewrite one that fails.
