Institutional Funding Strategy: Foundations, Government, and the Mix
Deciding what share of the budget institutions should carry, the compliance and restricted-fund routing that government and foundation money require, and how to lead a grants function without letting deadlines run the shop.

Because individuals are the engine of congregational giving, institutional money should stay a minority share funding specific, bounded initiatives, a building repair grant, a food pantry expansion, not a share large enough to bend a ministry's priorities toward a funder's. Diocesan or denominational funding is its own concentration risk worth naming to a parish council: a subsidy that covers a large share of a school or ministry's budget carries the same dependency the concentration guideline warns about, and government funding for programs with a religious dimension is often structurally limited, which can mean routing certain services through a separate affiliate before public dollars are even eligible.
